50 Years in the USA: A Daetwyler Milestone

daetwyler 50 years combo stacked

Over the decades, Daetwyler USA grew rapidly. Its machines became a benchmark in the industry.

Hundreds of employees were hired, factories were built, and millions of meters of doctor blades were sold. But more than anything, it was a story of grit, trust, and a commitment to excellence.

It was 1975. At just 26 years old, Peter and Rosie left the comfort of their small Swiss hometown—Bleienbach, population under 700—for the vast unknown of America.

Arriving at JFK Airport, the contrast between rural Switzerland and bustling 1970s Manhattan must have felt surreal. They had no roadmap, no safety net—only two suitcases, a shared dream, and a determination to carve out a future.

Peter spoke a bit of English thanks to an internship at an airplane factory in England. Rosie didn’t speak the language at all. But together, they set out to build something lasting.

What began as a humble rented desk at the U.S. agent for Daetwyler machines would evolve into a 50-year legacy of innovation, service, and leadership in the North American printing industry.

Today: A Fully Integrated Powerhouse

In 2025, Daetwyler USA isn’t just a sales arm—it’s a full-scale manufacturing and service operation.

The company now produces its own doctor blades and end seals for the Flexographic and Gravure printing industries right here in the U.S.

The pressroom equipment division includes a dedicated team of three service technicians offering 24/7 support for a vast installed base of Renzmann cleaning systems—serving customers across printing, ink, and coatings.

Doctor Blades are slit and then processed through a high-precision grinding and coating process.

The consumables division has expanded far beyond blades. With a portfolio that includes end seals and anilox rolls, and lubricants, Daetwyler USA is a true one-stop shop.

Its 10-person sales team includes technical specialists who support customers through hands-on trials, pressroom audits, and comprehensive pressroom training—ensuring the right fit for every application.

And it all operates from Daetwyler Plaza in Huntersville, North Carolina—a hub that not only anchors the business but supports a growing community of over 50 tenants and counting within its state-of-the-art facility, and over 20 virtual tenants.

Looking ahead

Fifty years ago, Peter and Rosie stepped off a plane with little more than belief.

Today, Daetwyler USA stands as a testament to that belief—delivering precision, partnership, and performance to the industry it has helped shape.

Here’s to the next 50.
